A man who portrayed himself as a church-going family man is facing a prison sentence for subjecting his wife to horrific abuse since Robert Simmons, 62, drew up timetables of jobs that he wanted his wife to carry out, dividing the day into minute slots over a year period. Using religion as an excuse for his brutality towards his wife, he also forced his wife to stand in an outbuilding at their home on the Shetland Islands where he hosed her down with cold water. He also forced her into the boot of a car when she fled the house and stood on her head in the abuse which spanned from until March this year.
